Cafes to work from in Pipa
Laptop-friendly Pipa
The town of Pipa in the northeast of Brazil, an area where you find the summer all year round, has been host to several digital nomad pop-up villages in recent years. As such, the town itself has become digital nomad friendly, and you easily find accommodation for longer stays that is equipped with a desk for a good price.
There are also multiple coin laundries and laundry services in town. These are the cafés and restaurants Charlie enjoyed to work from during her stay.
Caju
Speaking of coin laundries, this café is both, coffee shop and laundromat. The washing machines are at the groundfloor, the top floor is a small café with views over the road. They do yummy vegan food and different types of Mate. Charlie loved the one with basil and passion fruit! They also do real Italian-style coffee. (That’s not so common in Brazil.)
They have powerplugs and a good WiFi connection. It is quite small and Charlie was lucky that it was empty almost every time she went there.
Location: R. das Gameleiras, 25 – Praia da Pipa, Tibau do Sul – RN
Opening hours: Tuedays to Sundays 8.30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sundays 8.30 a.m. to 2 p.m.*
Hygge Café
In case that there is no space at Caju, you can always go to Hygge which is practically next door. It is hidden in one of the passages off the main road. When Charlie went there for the first time she was a bit confused because Google Maps was telling her that she had arrived, yet she was standing in front of a bar in the road. She then realized that she had to take the stairs up, pass by the bar to find Hygge along some other bars and restaurants.
There are several tables and a sofa over two floors and Hygge offers good coffee, breakfast and lunch. There is also a games table and a guitar. So if you want to hang out with your friends, that’s the place to go.
There’s WiFi and powerplugs too.
Location: Galeria Pipa Mar – Av. Baía dos Golfinhos, 764, Tibau do Sul
Opening hours: Mondays & Wedensday to Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m, Sundays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.*
Umi Fun Kitchen
This one came to Charlie as a surprise. She was on her way from Praia do Amor to Caju when she noticed a few restaurants in between the shops with a stunning terrace and views of Praia Central. Umi Fun Kitchen is one of them and Charlie asked the hostess at the entrance whether they allowed laptops. They did! The hostess even asked Charlie whether she needed powerplugs and within minutes she was set up in a scenic spot, working and enjoying a yummy Poke Bowl.
It was lunchtime during the week and the place was quiet, there were only two other laptop workers at that time. Given the location and views, Charlie expects this place to get quite busy in the evenings and on weekends.
Location: Av. Baía dos Golfinhos, 965 – Praia da Pipa, Tibau do Sul
Opening hours: Mondays to Thursdays 7.30 a.m. to 12 a.m., Fridays to Sundays 7.30 a.m. to 1 a.m.*
Barreling Surf School Library & Barraca do Beron
This is the place where Charlie spent most of her time during her stay in Pipa. It was the library on the beach that draw her attention right from the start. She hired a surfboard there and enjoyed sitting in between the books, getting an Açaí and working before and after surf sessions. They have good WiFi and there is a powerplug near the Açaí bar.
Barreling Surf School also turned out to be the best place to meet people. Some days, Charlie enjoyed a beer with other tourists and digital nomads that were taking surf lessons there or hiring boards. It also turns out that the History of Brasil in French is the most popular book in that library on the beach.
Location: R. Praia do Amor, Tibau do Sul
Opening hours: wheather-dependent, from around 8 a.m. until sunset*
Moka
This European-style coffeeshop is a bit further away from the beaches and the town centre and Charlie discovered it during the taxi ride to the Santuario Ecologico. You can get there from most places in Pipa in around 15 to 20 minutes on foot.
They do specialty coffees, breakfast and lunch. There are powerplugs and WiFi too. The only downside there was that it is directly on a relatively busy road.
Location: R. da Mangaba, 124 – Praia da Pipa, Tibau do Sul
Opening hours: Thursdays to Tuesdays 7.30 a.m. to 8 p.m.*
Sr. Croissant
Charlie only heard about this one from other digital nomads that liked to work from there. She hasn’t tested it herself because she only heard about it at the end of her stay in Pipa.
There is in a slightly quieter area around 10 minutes up the hill from the centre of Pipa.
Location: R. dos Flamingos, 10, Tibau do Sul
Opening hours: Mondays to Sundays 7.30 a.m. to 8 p.m.*
