Skateparks in Santa Teresa

Surfskating in Santa Teresa

When in Santa Teresa, you’re probably spending most of your time in the water. It’s a paradise for surfers after all. Charlie got into surfskating in London; and sometimes, even though there is surf, she misses it. She made it her mission to find out where to hire a surfskate in Santa Teresa and where to put it to work.

Santa Teresa Skatepark

The community skatepark is located behind the football court in the northern half of Santa Teresa. There are three ramps at different heights to drop in from. One of those ramps offers an additional bump at the bottom, the middle ramp is followed by another ramp to gain more speed before rolling into the half-open bowl and the third ramp brings the skater to the flat ground and then onto another ramp at the opposite end.

The skatepark itself isn’t big, and yet offers something for every level. There are flat surfaces for beginners, an easily accessible half-bowl for improvers and ramps at different heights for the more adventurous skaters that like big drop-ins and speed.

It is best to go early in the morning, early meaning 6 or 7 a.m., because it gets very hot during the day and the skatepark gets busy towards the end of the day.

Pacifica

This is a privately owned skatepark and belongs to the Pacifica Surf Hotel (you can get there by taking the path towards the beach on the side of Selina North). The entry fee is USD 10 and it opens at 9.30 a.m. There are three bowls of different depths made of wood and a wave ramp in concrete. The wave ramp has a different level of incline on each side so you can decide what type of wave you’d like to ride.

The whole area is covered by a roof and sun sails so you could skate at any time during the day. However, it still gets hot and busy in the late afternoon.

You have the option to hire a board and safety gear at reception.

Where else can you surfskate in Santa Teresa

The road in Santa Teresa has been paved in most parts and is a good surface for skating. However, depending on the time of day, there can be a lot of traffic and it is not recommended to skate in between all kinds of vehicles and pedestrians. Charlie skated along the road to the Skatepark in the early morning on a Sunday when it was very quiet.

There is another skatepark in Santa Teresa near the Lifeguards Gym. It was built by Thomas Ritchie for his daughter and hence, privately owned. They don’t charge an entry fee, but you need the owners permission. Apparently that skatepark also contains a pump track.

Charlie had seen a reel on Instagram by GrlSwrl which featured a beautiful ocean road with a slight incline. Apparently, that road is near the town of Cabuya between Santa Teresa and Montezuma and there isn’t much traffic. Charlie didn’t get the chance to go there though.

Where to hire a surfskate in Santa Teresa

Charlie hired a Carver from STCR Skateschool. The best option is to message them on Instagram and arrange to meet. They also offer lessons. The board hire is USD 15 for 24 hours, USD 18 with protective equipment.

There is the surf shop Extreme on the main road in Santa Teresa where you can hire a Smoothstar for USD 15 for 24 hours.

If you want to skate at Pacifica, you can hire a board at reception where you also pay the entrance fee. They have a few Carvers, Smoothstar and street skateboards too. The price is USD 10 per day (in addition to the entrance fee of USD 10).
