Poros – Athens – London
The journey home after a week of sailing
Charlie couldn’t believe that her week in Greece, on board the sailing boat “First” was already over. She had spontaneously taken part in a sailing course with 7SeasSailingschool instead of staying in Athens. Not only had she been awarded the “Competent Crew” certificate, but she also had made some great memories in a beautiful place of the world and met some amazing people.
The ferry from Poros to Piraeus was scheduled for 8am that Tuesday morning. Julio had said his goodbyes and had gone back to sleep in his cabin, Vangelis went for a coffee and Charlie and Pablo were looking for the place where the ferry would leave. They walked around for 15 minutes until they decided to ask in a coffee shop. Of course, they had already passed the point 3 times without noticing. Apart from the ticket shop that was hidden between restaurants, there was nothing that would indicate where the ferry stopped. There was still enough time for a last coffee and Daria joined them to say goodbye as well. She had to return to the boat though because she and Charlie had accidentally switched chargers for their phones and were meant to swap them back. Charlie had to go on board though.
She had just taken her seat when “Miss Charlie” was called out via the speakers. What had she done wrong? She was requested to return to the back of the boat. Daria was waiting there for her with the cable. They got their proper farewell hug and “Miss Charlie” returned to her seat. She was glad she hadn’t done anything wrong to be called to the principal’s office.
Tour through Athens with Sokrates
Back at Piraeus, a cab driver was already waiting for Charlie. Vangelis had arranged for a friend of his to pick Charlie up. His name was Sokrates…who else here can say that they got a taxi ride with Sokrates?
He also was a tourist guide and pointed some interesting places out as they drove through Athens to the airport. He had some booklets prepared for Charlie to look through, just for her to see what there would have been to visit if she had stayed in Athens. It looked impressive, but it could not have held up with the memories she made on the Greek islands and the sailing boat. It was a once in a lifetime experience and a trip that Charlie hadn’t even intended to make. She would do it again, any time!
