Markets in Gran Canaria
Authentic shopping experiences in Las Palmas, the mountains and the South
The Canary Islands have a rich tradition of markets, especially Sunday markets are popular amongst locals and tourists alike. The biggest one Charlie has seen so far was the market in Teguise in Lanzarote. There are a few markets around the island of Gran Canaria. Charlie’s favourite was the market in Teror.
Teror Outdoor Market
Around 100 stalls around the historic Basilica bring this small town in the mountains to live every Sunday. The market in Teror is one of the oldest in Gran Canaria and the town itself is worth a visit on any day of the week. Typical Canarian balconies and historic houses guide the way down to the main square and the Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pino, a church dedicated to the patron saint of Gran Canaria. Teror is definitely one of the highlights of Gran Canaria.
Teror is also the birthplace of the popular Chorizo Teroro. It is spreadable and often served with honey. If you get the chance, you have to try it.
