The Botanical Garden in Rio de Janeiro

A stroll through gardens, waterfalls and forests

The city of Rio really has it all in one place, urban landscapes and nature. Charlie stayed for some time in a flat in Leblon and from there, it was only a 20-minute walk to the entrance of the Botanical Garden. She passed by the museum to get to the entrance to the gardens where she bought her ticket.

Tickets can be bought online too, however, all the available payment methods required a CPF which Charlie didn’t have. Getting a ticket at the entrance was just easier.

Several gardens within the garden

The Botanical Garden of Rio is a large park with a lot of different plant species, waterfalls, fountains and historical buildings like an old mill. There are also some smaller gardens that specialize in specific plants, e.g. a cactus garden, a bromelia garden, an orchid garden and a rose garden.

A forest within a garden

What Charlie liked the most was the path along the Atlantic Forest. She had visited the deeper parts of this forest during a trip to the Tijuca Park before. This was now a smaller version of it. The path is on a bit of an elevation and provides therefore good views over the entire Botanical Garden and in between the trees, on a clear day, you can even spot the Christ Statue that presides over the city.

There is a restaurant inside the Botanical Garden as well, ideal to get lunch. And if you prefer, the road on the outside of the Botanical Garden in the quarter of the same name (Jardim Botanico) has several restaurants.

Fill your suitcase with memories, adventures and stories.
