Saturdays in Conil de la Frontera

Old and new friends

It had been a stormy week and the sky was finally clearing up a bit on Saturday. There were no waves, so surfing was not an option. Charlie went to her favourite coffee shop in Conil, Malcafé, after breakfast with the intention of making it a productive blogging day. The spot she usually took by the window was taken by somebody else… and Charlie knew that somebody. It was Alexandra. She had been staying at the Surf hostel in Conil and shared a room with Charlie for a few days before she rented a place to stay. They had met once again after Alex had moved to her own flat, but that was at least 3 weeks ago. They had a lot to chat about… and so went the morning on.

Dakota Vintage Shop

Alex wanted to go to the vintage shop up the road to get new jeans and Charlie joined her. In the end, it was a lovely sunny day and Charlie had certainly picked the wrong hoodie. After all, it had been freezing cold the days of the storm. The guy who runs the vintage shop is from Barcelona and he really has an eye for clothes. Alexandra described what type of jeans she was looking for and the first one he recommended was a perfect match! She still tried a few more, just to be sure, but the first one was it. Charlie strolled a bit through the shop and her eyes stopped at a denim jacket. She had wanted one for a while. She tried it and she had also found her perfect match! That also solved the problem that she was wearing a too-warm hoodie.

Curry Saturdays

Alex was planning to get a Curry at Kukui Takeaway for lunch later and asked Charlie if she wanted to join. Of course! They do Curry Saturdays at Kukui every week. For €10 you get a Curry, a drink and a dessert. And it was yumm!

Just after they had sat down it started to rain and they moved their tables under the umbrella. That meant that all guests were suddenly a lot closer to each other. Charlie and Alex started chatting to the couple at the table next to them. They were Italian but permanently living in Spain.

They also started chatting to the people on the table on the other side. They were a Dutch couple that had been living in Conil for 15 years and an English couple who was also permanently living there. They recommended Charlie another coworking space in Conil which she will certainly try out one day. The surf hostel had a coworking area but occasionally, Charlie needed a change of environment. They all chatted the afternoon away.

At around 5, some musicians were coming along. It had stopped raining and they pulled the tables a bit further apart again, mainly to have space for the musicians in the middle. At first, only one of them played guitar and sang, then they all three started singing and playing Spanish music. It created a lovely atmosphere and Charlie was happy that she had gone to Malcafé that morning which was the beginning of a nice day out in Conil de la Frontera.
