Good Coffee & Good WiFi for Digital Nomads
When Charlie was in Conil de la Frontera, she had booked a special package deal with Take Hostel that included accommodation and the use of a co-working space. That space is within the hostel. Charlie though likes to change spots when she is working. Sitting in the same spot for 8 hours doesn’t make her very productive. It’s the same when she’s in London where she usually finds coffee shops to work from or co-working spaces with Othership. In Conil, the best way to find those places is to ask somebody. That’s how Charlie discovered the following coffee shops that she can highly recommend, also if you just want to have a coffee.
An important note for remote work from Spain is that you have to keep the siesta in mind. Nearly everything closes at 2 p.m. and reopens at around 5 p.m. In Conil, nearly all coffee shops are closed on Tuesdays.
All coffee shops in Conil provide a cosy atmosphere and you can chat directly to the owners who are all very friendly. At the end of your stay, you might know their whole life story and they will know yours.
Malcafe
This was Charlie’s favourite spot to work from in Conil. There is a high table right by the window which provides the perfect spot for productivity – for Charlie at least. Malcafe is only 5 minutes away from Take Hostel and offers a wide range of coffee, smoothies, cakes and bagels. Breakfast and lunch are covered! The internet connection is strong and there are power plugs. Charlie’s favourite: Supercitrus smoothie, Café Latte and a Hawaiian Bagel. Yumm!
- Location: Calle Antonio Ureba, 17
- Opening hours: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. everyday but Tuesdays (subject to change), Friday and Saturday evening
La Mesa Imperfecta
Located opposite the post office in Conil de la Frontera, you can watch the postal queue getting longer and longer whilst you enjoy a breakfast bowl or a homemade cake. They also have a great selection of teas if you fancy that. There’s a good WiFi connection and power plugs at La Mesa Imperfecta. Be careful when you sit on the high table by the window. When you lean back you might accidentally switch the lights off. If you are not working, you can pick a book from the shelf to let the time pass by. Charlie’s favourite: Orange-Pomelo juice, Café Latte and Greek Yogurt with Granola and Fruits. Good breakfast!
- Location: Calle la Vid, 4
- Opening hours: 8.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. everyday but Tuesdays (subject to change)
Kukui Takeaway
Kukui is in a side road next to the Mercado de Abastos in Conil de la Frontera. The owner is Argentinian, and you can often get some traditional, Argentinian sweets. They also do great Currys with Live Music every Saturday. The WiFi is good and there are power plugs that you can use. Compared to the other two coffee shops, the menu is certainly the biggest with different types of sandwiches, salads and more. Charlie’s favourite: American pancakes, Café Latte and Rocko Juice. Can’t get enough of it!
- Location: Calle José Tomás Borrego, 5
- Opening hours: 10.00 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. every day but Tuesdays (subject to change), weekends in the evening
The Library at La Chanca
The Chanca is located next to Take Hostel and contains a museum that tells the history of tuna fishing in the area. There also is a library inside from where you can work with your laptop. Charlie didn’t try it though because due to the COVID-19 restrictions she would have had to wear a mask all the time and that can’t be beneficial for work.
Corker Coworking Space
There is a coworking space located by the city hall in the centre of Conil de la Frontera. It had been recommended to Charlie but she didn’t get a chance to try it out because it was closed due to the pandemic. The coworking space is now open again and welcomes digital nomads for long-term dedicated desks or short-term hot desking. You can find more information on the website of Corker Coworking Space.
